I have a corner mouth line that was created by a bad cold sore. the collagen underneath has broken down very bad. I can see many fine lines in that area. I don't have lines on the other side of my mouth. I think the reason is because i had a cold sore during skin healing from mirco needling. The main obvious line is right at the corner and is about 1 cm. what can i do to treat this?
Answer: Vertical Lines / Smoker's Lines -- Fillers (Restylane Silk, Belotero), Laser Resurfacing, Peels, Superficial RF, Microneedling Fillers such as Restylane Silk, Belotero, or Juvederm can work well to treat lines around the mouth, but the best first option is laser resurfacing or deep peels to induce collagen production. Superficial radiofrequency devices and microneedling can help as well and are less invasive. I suggest going to an experienced cosmetic dermatologist with expertise in lasers and fillers. Answer: Corner Mouth Line Treatments I would take your Valtrex before any filler or addittional microneedling. The choice of filler is probably your fastest solution. Since you have multiple fine lines, filler or microneedling or depending on your skin type- some laser may be helpful.

Answer: Accurate diagnosis BEFORE treatment is critical Be super careful in this area as scarring is commonly seen around the mouth. The answer will lie in the assessment. I suspect subcsion and filler over device, but you do need to be assessed beforehand. Microneedling has come a long way over the past few years and can help skin via several methods. Firstly it releases cytokines and growth factors in the epidermis and dermis- the top and bottom layers of your skin. This in turn remodels scars and the dermal layer of the skin. Additionally needles can break up scars themselves. This leads to new collagen formation. Microneedling is both user dependent and method driven. Simple needles can be used, growth factors can be added after the procedure, including PRP, or controlled heating during the procedure. This controlled heating is delivered via RF, and is called RF microneedling. RF can then be delivered via insulated or insulated needles. Even the energy level, depths, density, pulse duration and so many other variables can be controlled. This together with the added benefits of growth factor infusion makes this one of the most complex procedures in procedural dermatology. I use everything from Dermapen, though to newer generation insulated and non-insulated devices including INFINI micro-needling radiofrequency, Intensif and others. Newer generation devices can provide an added advantage in some, but not all patients. Like most procedures, its 80% skill level of the specialist and 20% dependent on the brand of the energy device- microneedling system. All the best, Dr Davin Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
