The answer is 'usually safe'. Lupus can Koebner, i.e.. any trauma can evoke your body to produce lupus on your skin. If you use a 0.5 mm needle conservatively it is unlikely. OK, the technique is very important. Best if someone rolls for you (preferably professional) if not brother, sister, neighbour.... but you need counter traction in some areas and pinching up in others. By stretching your skin and applying firm pressure, it will help. Needle depth is vital....
