Can I use AHAs before retinol or do they cancel each other out?

I have been using an AHA facial wash, a AHA exfoliant then a retinol nightcream. I understand that the pH of the AHA products needs to be between 3.5 and 4.5 to be most effective, but is this pH too low for retinol to convert to retinoic acid? Should I wait 30 minutes before applying the retinol nightcream for the pH levels to return to normal after the AHA products?

My strategy is to always use Melarase creams before and after a chemical peel if indicated. I would suggest using Melarase AM and Melarase PM now to prevent further darkening. Best, Dr. KaramanoukianLos Angeles

Post peel burning is common. At this point, start Melarase creams (AM and PM) followed by Melapads daily to reduce the pigmentation. Best, Dr. KaramanoukianLos Angeles

I would start with daily Melarase AM and Melarase PM followed by light chemical peels to help exfoliate the pigmentation. You may have recurrent pigmentation for some time. Best, Dr. KaramanoukianLos Angeles
