I should've listened to my mom when she told me not to use a tanning bed when I tried to get a "base tan" for workouts. Used once mind you.. I had a mole on my forehead which used to be the size of a small permanent marker dot, now it's more-so the size of a pencil eraser and has been growing since last year to the point others notice it. Mole removal begins with a comprehensive examination and consultation to determine the likelihood of a mole being worrisome. Excisional and incisional biopsies are reserved for suspicious moles. But it’s good news that most moles are not problematic and are only cosmetic, thus leading to the option of scarless or non-surgical mole removal with lasers and RF and plasma. A shave excision is
typically the easiest and most cost effective way of removing the majority of
moles on the scalp. It will also give the best chance of minimizing the
scar. With this method the mole is actually "shaved off" at a
level just below the surface of the skin. Hair follicles are not affected so any hair removed at the time of the procedure will typically regrow. The tissue that has been removed can
then be sent for microscopic examination to make sure the mole is benign. Dermatologic
surgeons are experts at doing this procedure.
