After 4 pregnancies and two abdominal surgeries (c-section and hysterectomy) I am finally ready to do my tummy tuck! I am 5'8 and 183. I have been a steady 170 to 180 for the last two years. I dislike my tummy so much. Will a tummy tuck make a dramatic change ? Or do I need to lose more weight first.
Answer: Abdominplasty with mesh reinforcement At 5’8 and 183 lbs, your BMI is 27 ½, which is acceptable for an abdominoplasty. Since you have had a hysterectomy, I recommend abdominoplasty with mesh reinforcement. The mesh will create a more hourglass figure while compressing the abdominal wall, which results in early satiety and helps maintain a reduced weight.Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Have I lost enough weight for a tummy tuck? Most plastic surgeons suggest that you finish having children, get your weight within 10 pounds of your ideal weight and have a BMI less than 30 before undergoing an abdominoplasty with repair of the stretched out abdominal muscles and liposuction of selective areas, in order to achieve the best long term cosmetic result with the least potential complications. Following the advice of anyone who would presume to tell you what to do without seeing photos and more importantly without taking a full medical history, examining you, feeling and assessing your tissue tone, discussing your desired outcome and fully informing you about the pros and cons of each option would not be in your best interest. Find a plastic surgeon that you are comfortable with and one that you trust and listen to his or her advice. The surgeon should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California.

Answer: Tummy tuck Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photograph, you are a candidate for a tummy tuck with liposuction. This can be done through a low and short incision, all completely below the bikini line. The belly button can be designed to look natural and have no scars on the exterior. Your muscles can also be plicated resulting in a flat abdomen. It is always best to be close to your goal weight prior to surgery. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Have I lost enough weight for a Tummy Tuck? Thank you for your question and photos. An in person examination is the best way to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck. Although it is usually recommended that patients have a BMI of less then 30 before undergoing elective cosmetic procedures, each case should be evaluated on an individual basis. Based on your photos and your height and weight, you appear to be be a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck with liposuction. This would give you the dramatic results you are looking for. That being said, you will likely have even better results with continued weight loss before the procedure. Congratulations on your ongoing weight loss and best wishes.
