Compression indentation - garment too tight? Permanent?

Question

I am 6 days post-op with tumescent lipo and a BA. How tight is too tight for the compression garment? When sitting or laying down, the zipper may bunch causing a piece to dig into my side creating an indentation. Is that normal? I'm just worried that it's going to create a permanent indentation! Is that even possible? Thanks so much!

That sounds completely normal for a garment within the first week. As swelling comes down it will loosen. If you are concerned then go see your surgeon to be examined. Best of luck!

Garments after liposuction help with healing and decrease complications. As with any tight garments or clothing, some indentations can happen but, it they are due to the garment, they will completely resolve.I suggest that you see your doctor and review your concerns.Best regards and I hope that helps you, Dr. Sapijaszko.

It is perfectly normal to see indents from your compression garment. Don't worry, they are not permanent. It is best to adjust the garment frequently so the indentions are not in the same area all the time. You can also line areas with gauze or pads. Reston foam is a material that can be worn under a garment (usually in the abdominal area) to keep it lying smooth.

A pressure garment is too tight if you have trouble breathing or too much discomfort from the garment. All patients get some indents and lines from the garment, especially along the zipper area. These go away once the garment is off for several hours just like sleep wrinkles go away. I have never seen in 33 years of liposuction a permanent problem caused by the garment. If you are concerned discuss with your surgeon.

If the zipper is digging in, then place a piece of foam under that area so it is smooth. Compression too tight can cause indentions. Please discuss your concerns with your surgeon's office.
