Should I be concerned about having tumescent Liposuction, will it make my heart race?

Thank you for your question.  Usually during liposuction, your heart doesn't race like it does with dental procedures.  During liposuction, the lidocaine with epi is injected into the fat, whereas, during dental procedures, it's injected into the gums which are much more vascular and the epinephrine is absorbed much faster.

Generally speaking, patient undergoing liposuction under local or tumescent liposuction technique do not have racing heart even though some of them have it during dental procedures. The epinephrine (the product that can make the heart race) is not injected into a vein so that minimizes the chances of fast heart rate.I would encourage you to speak to you doctor about it and fully clarify your concerns.Best regards

The way the tumescent fluid is designed and used, it does not make the heart race.  The injection of epinephrine at the dentist can easily make your heart race if it is injected into a blood vessel, which is highly likely because of the vast number of vessels in the mucosa of your mouth.  The two things are not closely related.  If you were to have liposuction, you should have tumescent fluid.  

Hi, jatroAlthough your heart rate can increase with epinephrine, tumescent solution is different from the lidocaine with epinephrine.  Tumescent solution is more diluted and it is injected into subcutaneous (fatty) tissue.Please make sure that your plastic surgeon is experienced and board-certified. Best regards.

The amount of epinephrine ( adrenaline) typically used in Tumescent Liposuction will not usually significantly raise a person's  heart rate although some individuals are very sensitive to this substance.We do a through medical screening and pre operative evaluation for any prospective Tumescent Liposuction patients to make sure the procedure will be safe for that individual.

I would suggest that you discuss your heart racing issue with your surgeon. You may possibly have the same reaction as with your dentist, but the local anesthesia is usually absorbed ,more slowly than that in the mouth. Your surgeon could use less amount and inject very slowly. If no epinephrine is used, you will have more bruising.

Injecting local anesthetic that contains epinephrine into fatty areas is different than injecting it into mucosa (in your mouth) to anesthetize your teeth. The difference is that with mucosa, the anesthetic is absorbed very quickly whereas when its injected into fat, its absorbed slowly. Its not likely you will have the same heart racing when its injected into fat. Nonetheless, if I were your surgeon, I would inject small amounts slowly and see how you feel.
