I am day 1 after tumescent liposuction of abdomen and inner thighs. When I removed compression garment to shower I noticed significant indentation where gauze was placed. Is this normal and expected to resolve with decreased swelling? One area of inner thigh almost looked like fat had been scooped out where stack of gauze was placed. Also, my second garment was significant smaller than initial garment, it did zipper with effort, but can a garment be too tight and cause irregularities?

Answer: Can gauze dressings cause permanent indentations after liposuction? This is an excellent question. In the first 24-48 hours after liposuction there is often quite a bit of drainage from the incisions, and gauze is needed to absorb this drainage. Using gauze for the first few days after surgery will not leave a permanent indentation. After the first couple of weeks, however, it is important that your garment fit well and not leave any creases or zipper marks, because it is possible for these to become permanent. I would recommend double checking with your surgeon when he or she wants you to start wearing the second stage garment, as well has having him or her inspect it for proper fit.Best of luck to you!

Answer: Indentation after liposuction Thanks for your question.Your body will have swelling following liposuction. The most significant swelling will be noted during the first couple weeks. Since you had an indentation for a short amount of time, as the swelling decreases, along with performing massage over the area, the indentation should improve.Compression is important; please follow your plastic surgeon's post-op instruction.Good luck with your recovery.
