Can gauze placed after Liposuction cause indentations?

It is normal for indentations to occur where gauze is placed after liposuction, due to swelling after the procedure. It should resolve as the swelling goes down. As for compression garments, they should be tight, but you should not have difficulty putting them on. Properly sized compression garments help the end result to be smooth and even. Irregularities may occur if the garment is not fitted properly. If you are concerned, I recommend visiting your practitioner and telling them your concerns so that they can be resolved.

A garment can be too tight.   This will not help you. It can actually compromise the skin.  The garment should not hurt or be difficult to put on.  

Thank you for your question.  Usually, the first couple of days after lipo you are very swollen and you need the gauze to absorbed the drainage.  The indentation is from swelling being forced out more from the areas where the dressing is.  This will not be permanent.  You do need to make sure your second stage garment fits well and does not cause any irregularities.

This is an excellent question. In the first 24-48 hours after liposuction there is often quite a bit of drainage from the incisions, and gauze is needed to absorb this drainage. Using gauze for the first few days after surgery will not leave a permanent indentation. After the first couple of weeks, however, it is important that your garment fit well and not leave any creases or zipper marks, because it is possible for these to become permanent. I would recommend double checking with your surgeon when he or she wants you to start wearing the second stage garment, as well has having him or her inspect it for proper fit.Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your question.Your body will have swelling following liposuction.  The most significant swelling will be noted during the first couple weeks.  Since you had an indentation for a short amount of time, as the swelling decreases, along with performing massage over the area, the indentation should improve.Compression is important; please follow your plastic surgeon's post-op instruction.Good luck with your recovery.

Swelling after tumescent liposuction is entirely normal - the first 2 weeks are the most swollen and the rest settles slowly over the next 3-6 months. Anything next to the skin in the first few days will leave an indent or mark but this should be temporary. Yes, sometimes gauze may show an indention, but usually goes away quickly. Initially, you have swelling and cannot tell your final shape. Be careful that your garments are worn properly so that you don't have indentions and irregularities.

Liposuction results in a lot of swelling. Gauze is used to absorb drainage. Any impression from gauze is likely to go away and is often due to swelling.

In the first few days following a liposuction, even a small gauze can cause some temporary indentations.  This should resolve as the swelling subsides.  Let your surgeon know about this, and try to keep your garment as smooth and wrinkle-free as possible.  Check with your surgeon if they want you to massage the areas.  Massaging can help smooth these areas.  Best wishes, Dr. Lepore.
