Question

Extracapsular rupture found in my Sientra cohesive gel implants. It appears as if the gel has migrated to my upper chest/armpit area. How urgent is removal? I’m meeting with a local PS this week but wanted to get an idea of initial impressions. I have pain in the area where it appears to have leaked. I’m deathly afraid of lymph node involvement?

in case of implants rupture, it is recommended to remove it as soon as possible in order to prevent further complications. There is no “emergency@to remove your implants. However, removal in a elective manner will be needed as the silicone can continue to cause issues with the breast. I would schedule in the next few weeks. Choose saline implants is you want a less worrisome surveillance scenario moving forward. Thank you.

When an implant is ruptured it is best to have the implant and capsule removed as soon as it is reasonably possible.  This gives you the best chance to prevent the contents from further migration.  I've included a video that I hope you find helpful.

Your surgeon will advise you to replace these implants. You do not have to be "deathly afraid" and your lymph nodes will just be doing their job if any escaped gel comes their way.
