Hi thoskie,Thanks for your question. The symmetry of your ears can be improved with an otoplasty. I would advise you to seek input from a surgeon who specializes in this area. A good starting point is to look at board certification. The two groups of physicians who are board certified to perform this surgery are facial plastic surgeons (ABFPRS) or full body plastic surgeons (ABPS).Good luck!!
Hi and thanks for your question. If you mean that your ears are different in shape because they are prominent and stick out from the sides of your head, then an otoplasty (ear pinning) might be the surgical option to correct this problem. After 30 years experience performing this operation, I would recommend you seek an experienced plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Good luck.RIchard Chaffoo, MD, FACS,FICSTriple Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

That being said, there are several steps in correcting protruding ears and near symmetry can usually be obtained by using maneuvers on each ear as needed to get to that aesthetic norm -- a little more fold needed on one side as compared to the other or varying the degree of rotation of each ear in a posterior direction. Removal of a portion of one ear to reduce size and match the other ear is another maneuver that can be employed.
Unfortunately without a photo to look at it is not possible to say if it is normal swelling and bruising that comes with the procedure or if it is inflammation. I would recommend calling and consulting with the medical staff and surgeon with the concerns that you have.

At seven days from surgery, washing your hair and gently washing around your ears with soap and water should be fine. This shouldn't have any effect on the dissolvable sutures.
