Can fat be removed from under the muscle?

My doctor told me that I have fat under my muscles in the abdominal area. I had liposuction of the fat above the muscle but I don't look like I lost a lot of weight because of this underlying fat. Is there any way this can be removed?

Thanks for the question. Your doctor is correct, the fat around your bowels is underneath your abdominal muscles and the only way to remove this fat is with diet and exercise. Intra-abdominal fat can only be removed with the diet and exercise. Liposuction will not get rid of the fat that is deep to the muscle. That is why liposuction superficial to the muscle can help with improving your waistline and therefore allow you to work out more and therefore eventually get rid of that fat that is intra-abdominal fat.

Liposuction is a great procedure that can remove external fat and help contour your body.  But it can not go below your abdominal muscles to access the fat around your vital organs.  The only way to reduce that is still good old fashion, diet and exercise.  That's why liposuction really isn't a weight loss procedure.  It is only a tool that will enhance or jumpstart a healthy lifestyle.

Fat under the muscle I assume refers to visceral fat which is over the organs.  This can only go down with diet and exercise.

Hi there. Fat under the muscle is called internal or visceral fat. This fat surrounds important internal organs. The only way to remove this fat is with general overall weight loss. Good luck.
