63 year old with Replicon implants which are very encapsulated. Can these be safely removed?

These were placed above the muscle. Original implants were below the muscle and encapsulated within the first month. Original surgeon replaced with Replicon (furry implant) within the first month. I have had them 25-30 years. I would just like them to be removed for good. I am having many autoimmune issues and wonder if they could be related?

Your Replicon or Surgitek implants have a polyurethane coat that forms a foreign body reaction with the surrounding tissue. The surrounding tissue is best to be removed with the implant in one procedure. Best to see a board certified plastic surgeon with experience with these implants. Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your contracture issues.  These implants can be safely removed, as well as the surrounding scar tissue.  Be sure to see an ASPS board certified plastic surgeon in consultation to discuss treatment.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question.  I recommend that you schedule consultations with board certified plastic surgeons in your area.  Discuss with them your concerns regarding implant removal.  Your implants, textured with polyurethane, can be removed safely along with the surrounding capsules. Thank you for posting this question.  Replicon implants were silicone implants  with a polyurethane surface  that gave them a 'fuzzy' texture in an effort to decrease the incidence of capsular contracture.  The appropriate treatment is the same as for any other implant that has developed capsular contracture, removal of the implant and the surrounding capsule.   Make sure to see an experienced board certified plastic surgeon for removal and to discuss how to proceed after that.  Best of luck!

Yes, you can have your implants safely removed.  You will want to have the capsules removed as well for your peace of mind.  I recommend meeting with a board certified plastic surgeon in your area for a consultation to explore your options.

Be sure to find an experienced ASPS Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who can examine you and take the time to answer any and all questions you may have. Look for the ASPS Board Certified symbol of excellence when researching potential surgeons. With an in-person exam a discussion can be had about the need for a lift immediately after the implants are removed or later after the tissues have settle and retracted.

Schedule a consult with a highly experienced board certified plastic surgeon for removal.  The only way to confirm that these implants are causing health issues is to take them out.  You are making a good decision to have them removed.
