Is it safe to use the elliptical machine 3 wks post op after a breast lift and implant exchange?

Question

I had a lift and implant exchange (went smaller) on Nov 10. The surgery ended up taking 5 hours but I am recovering very well. I got the go ahead to exercise (low impact) at my 3 wk appt. I used the incumbent bike and walked on the treadmill the next day. 2 days later I used the elliptical and noticed my breasts were definitely bouncing more than on the other machines, but not as much if I were to run. Is this ok or should I limit exercise to biking and walking? Nothing hurt or bothered me.

It is great to hear that you have had a successful surgery and that you are feeling well enough to exercise.  I allow my patients to return to low impact exercise at three weeks as well.  Depending on the type of surgery you have had regarding the placement of the implants and incision location, this extra bouncing may or may not be a concern. Your plastic surgeon can better advise you.  Good luck.

You may take gentle walks within a few days but  do not return to #aerobic #exercise for 2-3 weeks.However, it's best to acquire your plastic surgeon's permission to do so. If you have concerns about your healing, or pain, such as chest pain,it is important to call your plastic surgeon to discuss these further, and you may need to be examined.

Congratulations on having undergone the revisionary breast surgery.  Ultimately, only your plastic surgeon should advise you when it comes to returning to specific exercises.   For now, until you receive the "green light", I suggest that you stay at lower impact exercises.    Best wishes for an outcome that you will be pleased with long-term.

I will allow patients to start light aerobics in many situations at about 3-4 weeks post-op. You should ask your surgeon his thoughts.

Thank you for question. I would not advise using an elliptical at this point. I have a lot of "jocks" for patients and give the ok for low impact i.e. seated bike and fast walking, but no vigorous exercise for 6 weeks. I want the maximum healing (and thus support) to take place before I challenge the implant.
