Thanks for a very interesting question - it sounds like you have done quite a bit of research on this already.

It is not clear from your question if you are a doctor or a patient and also whether you have had the procedure already and want to compare the settings from your own procedure to other physicians preferred settings or if you are considering a procedure and gathering information in advance.

After having done TRL, Pfx and Halo on eyelids for 14 years, I'll say I don't have one settings that I always use. I have a few things I use to help me decide settings.

1) Where is the patient at to start in terms of skin laxity, skin texture, risk of complication such as ectropion and overall health (I don't treat smokers or people on high dose steroids for example and people who are younger/healthier generally heal better). From there I want to know where the patient wants to get to/their desired outcome. If that is realistic then the patient and I have to make a plan to get there. Sometimes the desired outcome isn't realistic and we have to modify the goal or consider another option like a blepharoplasty for the patient to be happy.

2) How much downtime can the patient tolerate, both in terms of initial swelling and peeling, but also the normal post procedure redness which can range up to 4-6 months with deep TRL.

3) What is the patient's anatomy. Skin thickness is often quite different males to females and also with different skin types. Darker toned skin/higher Fitzpatrick scores carry much higher risks and can end up with significant hyper- or hypopigmentation and for many of those cases the risks outweigh any possible benefit.
