Most plastic surgeons prescribe a compressive garment after liposuction. This provides comfort as well as control of the immediate postop swelling. It's doubtful whether it has any effect on the long-term outcome. In my practice when the garment is not comfortable then it is discarded.
Dear autumnkeesee, every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
autumnkeesee. Photographs would be helpful, however it can take as long as six months for all swelling to resolve after liposuction. I usually ask my patients to wear some sort of elastic garment for six weeks after surgery and at this stage, I don’t think any type of garment will speed your recovery. It sometimes just takes time for all swelling to resolve and skin contraction to occur. Try to stay patient and follow up with your plastic surgeon. Good luck!
I recommend following up with your Doctor about their protocol regarding compression. I have my patients wear compression for 3-6 weeks straight then overnight for 3-6 months after their procedure. For liposuction after care, I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Best, Dr. Emer
Hello, thank you for sharing your doubts. There is important that you still using your faja at least for three months after your surgery, remember the compression garment is going to help you with the bruises and the swollen, if after three months of recovery the final result does not fill your expectations you can contact with the surgeon in charge of your procedures and ask for a revision. When we talk about liposuction there are differents kind of techniques that we can use in order to improve the final results, however no matter wich one of them we use you have to wear your faja all the time after your surgery.Hope to have been helpful,
Hello,Thank you for your question! Liposuction takes time to see results, it can take up to 6 months or more for most of the swelling to go down. It's important that your staying compressed and that you get Lymphatic massages to help with the selling. If you have more concerns its best to consult with your board certified surgeon. Best of luck!
Hello dear!!Thanks for the question and provided information as well.I suggest my patients to try the lymphatic massages, in most cases, one or two days after surgery and to use a full body compression garment, 24/7 for the first 3 months, and after that, for 12 hours a day for 3 more months, to get the best results. If you have any concerns, please follow up close with your plastic surgeon.Good luck :)
The best thing to do is to ask your surgeon this question and follow their advice. In my practice garments are used to help control early postoperative swelling and to help the skin and fat contour. I think that garments are helpful but not completely necessary. I think that the same result can be achieved with or without a garment. The most important thing is the liposuction technique. Good luck!
Hi andwelcome to our forum!Congratulationson your recent procedure...The procedure of liposuction is an"insult" to the soft tissues, resulting in swelling which willinitially totally obscure the operative result. Thepurpose of a compression garment is to prevent bleeding and to controlswelling. We usually recommend its use for the first 4-6 weeks after theprocedure. 60-80%of the swelling should subside within the first 6 weeks, with the remainderslowly subsiding over 6-12 months. It is still too early to assess the result. Continuefollowup care with your plastic surgeon...Best wishes...
