Question

When I was around a year old I fell on concrete and busted my lip really bad in Cuba. The doctors never did surgery on me because I was too young, so fast forwarding to now me being 29 I have this noticeable bump on my lip that I just want to remove. I have a scar but it’s inside of my lip so you can’t see it. What procedure would I need or what doctor should I go to for this? 5ft/ 29 years old/ medium-tan skin

Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started.

Good Morning! Great questions. To start, you could consider steroid injection with massaging to see if improvements are made. For scars, steroids can do wonders to reduce the size. Then, move to excision. The oral mucosa (pink lip) tends to heal very well if sutured correctly. The downtime and discomfort should be minimal. I would seek consultation with facial plastic surgeon to see which option is the best. Hope that helps!

You will want to begin by visiting with a board certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate the area.  It is likely that the bump can be improved.  You can discuss your concerns and learn about where the incision/scar will be.
