I'm 40 and have lost 42 pounds over the past year. I am noticing that my cheeks are hollow and my lower face is sagging and around the corners of my mouth. Got my body in shape and now my face isn't looking so good. What would be the best way to help this, I am not liking this at all and making me look older.

Answer: Hollow eyes tic74, photos are not the best way to evaluate a patient but from what I can discern you look like a good candidate for a "SOOF lift blepharoplasty". You can find out a lot about this on the Internet. You may want to consider fillers for your cheeks; don't think you need a midface/deep plane lift yet. Seek MD's that are familiar with these procedures and specialize in facial plastic surgery; years of experience is a positive. Do your research! Good luck!

Answer: What's the best way to help hollow cheeks and sagging around the mouth? Hi, based upon the attached photos the cheek and lower eyes do look quite hollow creating an angular look to the face. The face can be feminized by shaping the cheeks and lower eyelid hollowness using a dermal filler (Perlane that's now called Restlayne Lyft and is great for shaping the cheeks, Restlane or Juvederm for the lower eye are). If you have "jowls" this is sagging facial tissues and an indication for some form of a facelift, not Cheek Augmentation. I have performed many Cheek Augmentations over the past 25 years and the notion that Cheek Implants or dermal fillers to the cheeks will lift tissues is an urban myth. Filler to the cheeks or cheek implants will not lift up the jowls. The underlying SMAS layer, of the face, must be dissected, lifted, trimmed and re-sutured (not merely folded or suspended with threads or sutures that will not last). The excess skin is then removed and the facelift incisions closed. My most popular facelift is the minimally invasive, short incision facelift that has all the benefits of more invasive facelifts (traditional, mid-face and subperiosteal facelifts) but with these added benefits:very small incisionsminimal tissue dissection = less bruising and swelling = rapid recoverycan be performed in 90 minutes or less, with or without general anesthesiano incisions within the hair = no hair lossexcess fat can be removedexcess skin removedcheeks, chin and jaw line can be augmented with dermal fillers (I prefer Perlane) or facial implantsmost patients fly back home to parts all over the world in as little as 3 days post-opHope this helps.
