Ive wanted a breast augmentation for ages and I know what confidence it would give me however I can't help but be very concerned about breast implant illness, my great fear is having them in and becoming sick afterwards or my body not accepting them. I've also read how bacteria during the time of surgery can cause a constant low grade infection in your body and make you sick which some believe is the cause for implant illness. I just feel torn as it would be a huge confidence boost.
Answer: Implant safety Dear A7183790, there have been numerous studies on the safety and efficacy of silicone breast implants. The FDA has approved them to be safe and breast augmentation is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure performed in the United States every year. Implants are much different than they used to be with rigorous testing and cohesive gel. I can't tell you how happy my breast augmentation patients have been with their implants. I would recommend a consult with a plastic surgeon to go over all of your concerns. Saline implants are also a perfectly good option if you are still concerned and are less expensive. Answer: Breast implant illness and other concerns The reality is that the vast majority of patients who have breast implants are very happy and have no or minimal problems with them. Inevitably there is disproportionate amount of attention and noise which comes from the minority who are unlucky enough to have problems. But yes, unfortunately, like so many things in life there is risk and uncertainty - you have to weigh up the certainty that your breasts will be made bigger and the highly likely positives in terms of boosting your confidence and body image versus the unlikely but potential issue of this entity called 'breast implant illness' (the existence of which remains unproven).

Answer: Breast implant illness Hello, and thank you for your question. You have valid concerns, but I can rest assure you that breast implant illness is very rare. I have been in practice for 25 years and I have maybe taken 2 patients implants out for what they thought was breast implant illness. Once the implants were removed, they still had the symptoms they had prior. I am not saying Breast implant illness is not a thing but it's a very fine grey area. Again, this is something that is very rare and just be sure to do your homework and find a board-certified surgeon with great reviews and beautiful before and after photos.

Answer: Breast implant illness Every surgery comes with some degree of risk, however the chance of developing breast implant illness after breast augmentation is rare. During surgery I take exceptional care including multiple interventions to keep the risk of infection as low as possible. Ultimately breast augmentation is an elective procedure and you have to decide for yourself if the benefits outweigh the risks. I've included a video below that actually discusses removal of implants, but it also talks about Breast Implant Illness so I hope you will find it helpful.

Answer: Surgery We live in an environment that is full of toxic chemicals in foods, water, air, personal care products, cleaning products, and chemicals in flooring, paint, and fabrics. Sterile technique, pre and post washing, and antibiotics are used to prevent infection. After surgery, you will need antibiotics prior to each dental visit, perhaps gyn visits, and with infections. Many women with "breast implant illness" do not improve even when the implants are removed. This shows that their problems are probably related to other sources than implants. this si elective surgery, but every surgery has risks. Ask yourself if you will be much happier with breast implants than without. Avoid large implants and consider saline or smooth gel implants only.
