Hi there, following my necklift procedure, the scarring located behind my ears has gradually got wider as it has healed. It feels like it has dragged, is that something that can happen.. My incision were a lot smaller initially. Also there are 2 suture nodule below my earlobe which can be seen and clearly palpated under the skin. Any advice would be appreciated.
Answer: After facelift scar Hi, the surgical scar behind the ear is well stitched - this is the part of the facelift/neck lift ops where there is the most stretch on the skin and also where the skin is thinnest so it is prone to healing slowly and to making a slightly heavy scar. you don't say when you had the operation but thise pics look as though they are only a few months after op. the redness should settle and the scar should soften and become much more subtle but this 'maturation' process takes 1-2 years. you can massage firmly with moisturiser or biooil 1-2 x per day and this should help to soften the scar and progress maturation. the nodule below earlobe is most likely an internal stitch - surgeons, myself included will often use a stitch called PDS and the knot can take 3-6 months to be absorbed; equally hte nodule could simply be some internal scar tissue or a fold/wrinkle due to the way the skin redrapes and folds. Here again, give plenty of time to settle and massage may be helpful.

Answer: Hypertrophic Scars Hello, hope you are well. Those are hypertrophic scars behind your ears. I would suggest application of silicone gel 2x/day and kenalog (steroid) injections. They may eventually require a little revision (excision and closure). Good luck! Dr. Tower

Answer: Scarring after face/neck lift Scares of this presentation are occasionally seen several months after surgery. Treatment should include silicone gel application, injection of corticosteroid and Botox. Once scar is mature (1-1.5 years after surgery) an attempt of partial or total scar excision may be considered. You should discuss your options with a surgeon. Good luck.

Answer: Visible facelift scar management Hello - thank you for your question. This type of scarring is not atypical behind the ear. For the thicker scar, nonsurgical steroid injection is an option to help flatten the scar and nodules. Another option is to revise the scar surgically. That can likely be done under local anesthesia. I would recommend you ask your plastic surgeon about these options. Best of luck to you!

Answer: A little cortisone and silicone gel helps fade scars nicely. Applying a little prescription cortisone cream once a day and silicone gel twice a day for a month or 2 will fade the scars nicely.
