Lumps after Smart Lipo 12 weeks post op. Do I continue to massage it?

It has been 12 weeks since I had smart lipo to my abdomen and there is still one big lump to my lower abdomen. Do I continue to massage it or has it improved all that it is going to? Also, do I keep wearing the compression garment because I have been wearing it all of the time except massage and shower. Thank you for your time.

Lumps and bumps as we call it are part of the post op healing process for lipo.  They will usually go away after a period of time (3-6 months post lipo).  It sounds like you are doing your part with massages and wearing the compression garment.  All doctors have a different algorithm for how long they have their patients in a compression garment, for that, I would follow up with your body contouring specialist!  I would give it more time but also would recommend following up with your doc.

Three months is still not the end of the lipo healing process. Lumps can take up to six months to resolve. Continue massaging the areas.

It can take 3-6 months for final results with Smart Lipo. Compression and lymphatic massage may give improvement. For best results with treatments like Smart Lipo, I recommend adding a combination of radiofrequency treatments like Vanquish, Venus Legacy, Exilis Ultra for skin tightening and with Z wave/Cellutone for skin smoothing in order to get the best results. Some degree of lumpiness is common, they are usually temporary but can take months to subside.Check with your plastic surgeon for any treatments such as ultrasound and/or steroid injections.

Yes, continue to massage the areas. The swelling may take six months to resolve. You can wear the garment for as long as you are comfortable doing so. Continue to follow your surgeons instructions and contact him him or her with any concerns. Best wishes.

Thank you for your question. Usually lumps settle in 3-4 months. At this stage garment is not make any difference. You can continue to massage and ask for venus legacy if it helps. Please talk to your PS

sometimes the lumps can last 6 and even 12 months. usually they improve by 3 months but everyone is different. the good thing is that these lumps are not visible usually and it is just something you feel. i don't believe even further treatment for them is warranted since i have done over 700 Smartlipo cases and i have never had a lump be permanent that i am aware of.i usually only have my patients wear the compression garment for 5 days. however, if someone's skin tone is not very good, i will sometime have them wear it more than 6 weeks. best to check with your plastic surgeon who hopefully did your Smartlipo.david berman md
