Thanks for your question. The use of PRP has become a popular and hot topic thanks to exposure in spa like treatments and facials like the Kardashian's sometimes talk about on TV. PRP is the healing components in blood that are taken from a blood sample and then spun quickly to isolate the healing factors in a concentrated way. It has some presumable benefit where the blood flow and healing slow and poor. In a BBL procedure the area treated has great blood flow and should not benefit in size or improved volume with PRP added. For many procedures PRP is used but the benefit is debated and not proven. Visit with an experienced and recognized board certified plastic surgeon to discuss the benefits of a BBL and if you are a good candidate.
i’m guessing you will find doctors offering PRP with their procedures having slick marketing campaigns with fine-tuned social media. The busy talented plastic surgeons I know do not use PRP. The growth factors available with a PRP will also be naturally available from the small amount of bleeding that happens during surgical procedures. The amount of serum able to be withdrawn to get enough PRP to potential he make any difference seems extreme. Especially prior to surgery.I personally would never remove a substantial amount of blood from a patient before surgical procedure for a benefit that is not proven it will in the end make no visual difference. Personally I would call the addition of PRP with a BBL borderline quackery. The research using PRP will move forward and with time we will know what the true indications are of using this technique. Personally I think the claims I’ve seen are marginal at best and this is for the very best indications of the use of PRP. In comparison to surgical technique and aesthetic judgment and relevant factor. Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.
I see absolutely no reason not to go swimming one day before surgery, but stay away from pools, oceans, jacuzzi's for at least 6 weeks after surgery to avoid any infection. Consult with your PS for instructions.
