What are my options to lighten and flatten a vertical scar?

Hello and thank you for your question.  The
best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation.  Based on
your photographs, you may benefit from a surgical scar revision.   Make sure you specifically look
at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery
performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results.   The most
important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend
that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who
can evaluate you in person.

 At 3.5 momths your scar is still very immature. You are doing a good job with it. You might add in a skin Lightner such as a hydroquinone, which your surgeon may be able to provide or there are over-the-counter skin lightening product that also contain smaller percentages of hydroquinone. You can also ask your surgeon about injecting the scars with Kenalog or  5- fluorouracil in tiny amounts can help flatten the scar more quickly.  Best of luck! Dr. Boschert
