Hello, my name is Ranen and I am an aesthetic nurse at Aesthetic skin. That’s a really thoughtful and important question — and I’m glad you’re thinking about it carefully. When it comes to autoimmune conditions like lupus, it’s true that many aesthetic treatments list them as relative contraindications — but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re always unsafe. It’s more about understanding your specific type of lupus, your current disease status, and the treatment intensity of the procedure. Manufacturers and clinics often include “autoimmune disease” as a precaution because: These conditions can cause heightened skin sensitivity or unpredictable inflammatory reactions. Some people with lupus experience photosensitivity (UV or even visible light can trigger flares). If you’re on immunosuppressive medication, your healing response may be slower or atypical. So, it’s not that all skin treatments are unsafe — it’s that your response may vary more than the average person’s.
Hi and thank you for your question! While superficial skin treatments such as HydraFacials are not expected to impact the course of lupus (as long as there are no skin lesions in the treated area), autoimmune diseases such as lupus and scleroderma are listed by the manufacturer as contraindications for the treatment out of abundance of caution. If you are considering the treatment, checking it with your lupus doctor is highly recommended to see what they suggest. I hope it helps and good luck!
Autoimmune diseases are contraindicated for the lymphatic drainage that is added to the beginning of the service. Your technician can simply omit that step and continue with a hydrafacial, still giving you hydrated, glowing skin.
Lupus is a contraindications for the Hydrafacial procedure. I would recommend you check with your physician to give you clearance before you proceed with any new treatments.
You can have a HydraFacial with lupus, but I do recommend that you see a medical provider with an in-depth understanding of autoimmune conditions & their effects on the skin. Often, patients with autoimmune conditions are particularly sensitive to certain ingredients or products, which can cause their skin to react in ways that others may not.
