How can I treat scar tissue after chin implant removal? What are my options?

I’m trying to find a solution for the scar tissue that has formed in my chin after having a silicone implant and subsequent removal. it has been over a year since i had it removed, and my chin is still too large with what feels like a hard ball of tissue projecting forward. wondering about cortisone shots or what other options i can take to make chin appear smaller

Yes - the first step is to try to soften that with steroid injected into the scar, deep.  That should help soften it and improve things. If that is ineffective, it is possible to (right in the office) go in and remove some of the scar tissue and recontour the tissue.

Plastic surgery scars require attention after surgery so that they remain cosmetically-appealing and barely noticeable. In our office, we use a protocol for scars that minimizes their activity in the 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you have late plastic surgery scars, you may also require laser and RF therapy to help reduce the longterm effects of the scarring. Keloids, hypertrophic scars, widened scars, red scars, and hyperpigmented scars all require scar modulation with topical creams followed by lasers and RF therapy. Topical skincare should be directed to a specific need, whether for pigmentation or hypertrophy and our office can guide you through the process to obtain the correct Plato’s Scar cream or Melarase cream for hypertrophy and discoloration. In terms of lasers, we would employ the vbeam laser for redness, Venus Viva RF, PRP microneedling, chemical peels, and Morpheus 8, fractional erbium, or fractional co2. All of these have their individual benefits. Most of all, we recommend you visit a solid plastic surgeon who understands surgical scar revision, laser therapy, and RF therapy for scars.

As a rule, intralesional injections of corticosteroids, such as triamcinolone, as well as other injectable anti-inflammatory agents (alone or in combination with triamcinolone) are the first line treatments for shrinking scar tissue from all causes.  Experienced physicians typically follow an algorithm for treating scar tissue consisting of varying agents, concentrations and combinations to achieve the desired result.  Should shrinkage of the underlying scar lead to some sagging or laxity of the chin, a robust HA filler may  subsequently be needed to achieve a desirable final aesthetic outcome. You would be wise to consult a board certified cosmetic dermatologist. Best of luck.
