Question

What is it and will it resolve? I had my second kybella treatment 2 months ago. After first had small nodules, these resolved with second treatment but now my neck looks "bumpy" when I look up. Soft and normal at rest. Provider office not sure what this is?

That inflammation takes much longer than 2 months to resolve.  The lumps and bumps are part of that healing process.  This will take many months to fully resolve.  You don't need unnecessary, ineffective cosmetic procedures to address these bumps.  Time alone will likely take care of these.  I personally have not been impressed with Kybella.  It is a disappointing, expensive service that takes too long to accomplish.  Lower face neck liposuction is much more effective and with a much faster recovery period.  I think Kybella is a bummer and does not live up to the hype.

Dear csummerskill,Kybella typically takes 3 to 5 treatments to work. This is why I've stopped carrying Kybella in my office.  I recommend neck liposuction more often then any injectable procedure for the neck now. It provides superior results gives me more control over the area than any injectable. It's difficult to tell from your pictures. This needs an in-person evaluation. Kybella is good for dissolving fat under the chin, but a combination approach is needed to get the most improvement with non-invasive options. I recommend Kybella with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF and a neck lift is an alternative for contouring the chin and can address skin laxity. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. This is not unusual after Kybella injection and usually resolves on its own. Our injectors promote massage to this area, however you should continue follow up with your provider.  Hope it goes soon!

Inflammation and associated lumps and bumps can be seen after Kybella treatment and usually takes 4-6 weeks to resolve. In some cases it can take a little longer. I recommend you followup with your injector to discuss you concerns although I believe the inflammation will resolve on its own over the next few weeks.

Hello,Already 2 treatments and 2 months gone from the last one.Although still possible to see some improvement but it may not happen, considering the timing and looking at your photos. Kybella is ONLY for sub mental area. It takes on average 3 injections to see the results. if you have any fat beyond sub mental area then Kybella is not the choice.It is absolutely important choosing the right modality for your concern. Thanks for your question. From your photo this appears to be post treatment inflammation which is normal and can take several more months to resolve, but I would always recommend speaking with your  physician. Also some light massage to the area may be useful as well. The treatment and inflammatory period can last for several months which is totally normal and expected from the Kybella treatment. I believe that this is likely still due to inflammation and slight swelling - the Kybella will help eliminate the fat, but through an inflammatory process - so, you will likely have some nodules and irregularities which can last for a number of months post-procedure. I would normally suggest a light massage to the area, but I would suggest speaking with your injector prior to starting any regimen. Best of luck!
