What should be avoided is biotin, probiotics and any over the counter supplements such as Vitamin D and Vitamin E. You want to stay away from any blood things. Your surgeon should provide you a list of things you should not take before surgery. Also What I do suggest to take is multivitamins and and Vitamin C to get your immune system strong and promote fast healing. You can take this after surgery.Good Luck!
Most vitamins are safe to take before and after surgery. I generally recommend Vitamin C and Zinc for patients to help the body restore and heal. The vitamins you may want to avoid are the fish oils as they can cause the blood to thin. Any supplements or vitamins should be taken to your plastic surgeon to make sure they are safe to take.
Before any sort of surgery, including breast augmentation, it's best to avoid any vitamins, minerals, or supplements that thin the blood. These include vitamin E, fish oil, garlic supplements, St. John's wort, and more. Your surgeon will likely offer you a list of supplements to avoid. There aren't really any supplements that you MUST take before surgery, especially since different doctors have different opinions on the matter altogether.
HI Moon, I usually tell my patients to avoid Vit. C and E which can cause bleeding if taken in high amounts. I also have on that list medications, such as Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Aleve, etc.. Other over the counter medications to avoid are things like glucosamine and fish oil which, again, can cause bleeding.Usually, a women's one a day vitamin is fine, but generally, I tell my patients to avoid all herbals and estrogens 2 weeks before and after surgery. The reason to avoid estrogens is to decrease the incidence of potential blood clots in the legs which can travel to the lungs.Hope this helps.Best,Dr. Christine Rodgers
Your surgeon should give you a list of drugs to take and those not to take. You specifically want to avoid anything which thins the blood--this could cause more bruising, even bleeding. Review carefully with your surgeon.
Dear moonchild818,every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative and postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
Best to check with your plastic surgeon, but I advise my patients to stop all sources of Vitamin E, e.g., Vitamin E pills, multivitamins, Slim Fast Ensure Plus, ALL HERBS, e.g. Ginko, Garlic, Ginseng, Natural or health preparations e.g. bee’s pollen, protein powders, etc. one week before surgery.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Thank you for your question. Your surgeon's office should provide you with a list of medications to avoid before and after surgery. Please do not take any vitamins or supplements that are blood thinning such as fish oil or vitamin E. I recommend my patients to take Vitamin C, Rutin and Arnica prior to surgery and to avoid all other supplements that are not medically necessary.
The board certified plastic surgeon that you are scheduled with should be giving you the list of vitamins to take and to avoid before surgery. While I can not tell you what they do ask of you, in my practice we ask that patients stop Vitamin E and fish oil before surgery. Reach out to the nurse or the surgeon at the practice where you're scheduled and a list can easily be provided to you!
The vitamins you are taking are fine as long as you are taking normal doses. I do recommend my patients not take herbal supplements that include ginger, ginsing, garlic, ginko to name a few because they can effect bleeding..
Thank you for your question. During breast augmentation alone surgeons do not manipulate the nipple or areola. Augmentation most of the time is done through an incision in the breast fold, and sometimes through an incision at the lower border of nipple/areola complex. With placement of the i...
Thank you for your question. Scars can take up to a year to fully mature. Continue using a silicone based scar gel or tape. I would return to your surgeon and have scar evaluated as well to determine if steriod injections may be warranted. Hope this helps
Thank you very much for your question. Unfortunately, without a photograph, it is impossible to provide any specific information. However, it is important to know that after weight loss, breast tissue may become lax and sag. Depending on your individual situation and needs, there are several...
