I have done hundreds of revisions, and my longest record is about 8 hours, the average 3-4, it is true that revision surgeries are challenges and time consuming, but most cases can be done in about 3 hours as average, less than 5 is the rule.Do request explanation to your surgeon to justify 9 hours.
9 hours is a relatively long time for a Rhinoplasty. If it is a complicated revision involving a rib graft, I can easily see the procedure lasting 4 hours plus. However, I recommend that you return to the Surgeon you are considering to review risks with him.
Revision rhinoplasty is a complicated and tedious surgery. The scar tissue, from previous surgeries, makes dealing with existing tissues more complicated.Usually, grafts are required to correct and support previous deformities. Cutting and placing these grafts will also takes time. That being said, a revision rhinoplasty extending beyond the 4- 6 hr mark, is highly unusual.Ensure you have visited at least two doctors, and that they specialize in rhinoplasty surgery.
Revision rhinoplasty is the hardest operation to perform an entire field of cosmetic surgery, so choose your surgeon very wisely based on experience, before and after photo gallery, ratings, reviews and testimonials. A 9 hour revision rhinoplasty seems very lengthy, so it is best to speak to your revision rhinoplasty specialist. In our practice, a very complicated revision rhinoplasty with multiple cartilage grafts, osteotomies and tip work would take no more than 2-3 hours.
You should go back to the surgeon and discuss the risks in detail, especially as regards your particular situation. There is really not enough information here to go with, and I don't think citing a laundry list of possible complications would be helpful. 9 hours seems awfully long, even for a complicated revision requiring costal cartilage graft. Hi,A 9 hour revision rhinoplasty doesnt sound right... The most difficult revision rhinoplasty I have ever performed over the last 20 years took no more than 3.5-4 hours. A 9 hour operation has a load of anasthesia risk as we as multiple surgical risks including but not limited a bad result. Find another surgeon.Best,Dr.S.
Like the other expert answers I can't comprehend why even the most difficult rhinoplasty would take that long. Your question however is about the risks. With any surgery the risks of infection, poor lung inflation, deep vein blood clots, pressure sores to the heels, back, and elbows, airway damage from the breathing tube, etc. all increase with the length of surgery. Either speak to your surgeon about why it would take so long or get another opinion. Hope all goes well once you decide.
Dear Rozeroze, I have never been in surgery for nine hours for a revision rhinoplasty and even for multiple procedures on one patient. This seems like an extremely long surgical time. Even for the most difficult revision procedure I would estimate three hours and four at the very most!! I would discuss with your surgeon what could possibly take this time length and discuss the risks of surgery at this extended time frame. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
Based on the included photographs you would be a good candidate for a facelift, removal some fat under chin, which they often go hand to hand and revision rhinoplasty. However, the type of facelift is something that has to be decided between you and your surgeon after understanding your...
They are disastrous, should never be used, they displace, extrude, get infected, etc... and look artificial... no one experienced rhinoplasty surgeon may use them; the name "rhinoplasty" when silicone and other rubbish from artificial origin is used, that is agains the historical and best...
Both procedures can be done safely at the same time. Specialized expertise is required to do both procedures as most rhinoplasty surgeons do not perform septal perforation repair.
Dear empoweressI'm not sure if I clearly understand. If you had no breathing difficulty prior to your spreader graft, then why was it placed? if your surgeon placed it at the time of your rhinoplasty as a preventive measure, then removing it may now lead to breathing difficulty. It is a...
Honestly said, that does not exist as operation itself. May your nose suffer any structural disbalance causing over exposure of the columella then this issue or issues should be specifically addressed, but keep in mind that sometimes the origin of a cosmetic problem of one nasal area is NOT...
