What happens to nasolabial folds after a lip lift?

With an extended modified bullhorn lip lift, I have experienced a considerable improvement in the improvement of appearance of the nasolabial folds. The key is the removal of skin at the corners of the nose which tend to smooth out the nasolabial creases giving an appearance of a smoother countenance of the face. I recommend fillers to soften the nasolabial folds themselves and also lift around the mouth and cheeks to build underlying anatomical support. In our practice we combine Sculptra with other fillers "layered" on top and lasers, skin tightening treatments such as Thermage, Fractora, and Renuvion (J Plasma), thread lifting, and peels to get the most conservative, natural look. Interesting question. The truth is nothing really happens at the NLFs after a traditional lip lift. But as we age, the NLF does deepen, with or without a lip lift. Hope that helps.Gary Linkov, MD
