Upturned Nose and No Prior Rhinoplasty - can this be fixed? (photos)

Short nose, like in your case, is one of the most difficult problems in rhinoplasty. Very complex surgery, including use of multiple cartilage grafts to lengthen the nose, elevate the dorsum, refine the tip, is needed to achieve desired result; on top of that, and most important, an excellent rhinoplasty surgeon, board certified plastic or ENT surgeon. Short nose correction is not an easy operation, but good enough results can be obtained. The most common corrective surgery is a septal extension graft using septal cartilage, but if in a small nose like yours, this may not be effective as the septal cartilage is likely to be small. In that case, it is necessary to use rib cartilage, but if you want a smaller operation, correction using ear cartilage is also possible. This surgical method using ear cartilage is less invasive and very good results can be expected, and the most important advantage of this technique is: the tip of the nose is not rigid/fixed, it can be movable.You can see some examples through my rhinoplasty book.

Noses come in all different shapes and sizes. That’s what I love about rhinoplasty. There are procedures designed to correct various problems that patients don’t like. In these photos the tip is short and over rotated. But also the dorsal is probably a bit low. This can all be improved but will take cartilage grafting to add support to move the tip downward and build up the dorsum. There probably is not enough septum available in such a short nose. In these cases the cartilage can be taken from the ear or rib. Good luck.
