Candidate for rhinoplasty? Which (if any) form of procedure would be appropriate? (photos)

Question

Large noses run in my family but up until my mid-twenties I assumed I had escaped unscathed. Unfortunately this was not the case, and I feel that it now overshadows my other features and protrudes much too far out from my face. I have no qualms whatsoever with it from a front view, it’s only my side profile I am self conscious about, with the dorsal slope being far too high. Was wondering which (if any) form of procedure would be appropriate. UK based, 25 years old, 55kg, thank you!

Thank you for your question and photos. While suggesting an open or closed procedure would require an in-person examination, you appear to be a candidate for rhinoplasty to change your nose’s appearance. The dorsal slope can be redefined and the tip deprojected to create balance with the rest of your facial features and improve your side profile.

Keep in mind that rhinoplasty is one of the most complex of all plastic surgery procedures, requiring skill, experience, and artistry to produce the best possible result. I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with an experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon, with expertise in rhinoplasty techniques. They will be able to answer any questions you have and help you decide on the best course of action.

Depending upon your examination, if you feel like your nose sticks out too far from your face, rhinoplasty surgery techniques may be considered for Repositioning your nose closer to your face for a less distracting nasal appearance. The characteristics of your nose and nasal skin make it suitable for a variety of techniques to be successful with a reduction in size whilst maintaining a slim appearance of the nose on the front view.

My personal preference goes to ultrasonic rhinoplasty but it would be fair to say that preservation techniques or closed rhinoplasty standard an equally good chance of producing a balanced result.

Another element for success is to determine what it is like to achieve as a final shape. Computer imaging and simulation can help with this evaluation.

You have pretty much won the lottery if large noses traditionally run in your family.  The only thing that you could address is the small dorsal hump and perhaps a bit of tip refinement.  I would not do anything to your nose other than those items from the photos that you have provided.

Hello! Thank you for your question.I have evaluated your case from the photos and information you provided. From the photos it looks like you have a dorsal hump and the tip is starting to be droopy. With time, there are risks that the tip drops more. The nostrils are too close (from the front). I recommend you a rhinoplasty surgery to get a more elegant, feminine and defined nose shape.Regarding the techniques, each surgeon have their own methods and techniques for a surgery. But it always depend on the patient. As a surgeon we adapt ourselves to the patient's expectations and what can be done. Best regards!

What type of rhinoplasty would suit your nose? hello. Based on the photos you present, your nose doesn’t really look that large to me. you do have a small dorsal hump and slightly high radix. Assuming your septum is OK, a simple straightforward rhinoplasty could be performed. The particular type of rhinoplasty, be at open or closed or some other variation on the theme just depends on the comfort level of the operating surgeon. Some are more comfortable with open while others are more comfortable with closed, while yet others are experimenting with other less established approaches. Closed rhinoplasty is the least invasive and is the approach I would use in a simple straightforward rhinoplasty such as yours.

Thank you very much for your question.  Fortunately your nasal tip profile from the side is excellent and what ever is done your tip projection should be maintained.

An osteoplastic rhinoplasty which involves reducing the dorsum of the bony portion of your nose will certainly lessen the appearance of projection of your nose.  During this a tip graft must be placed to preserve your excellent nasal tip projection angle.  This cartilage can be easily harvested from her nasal septum.

I urge you to give considerable thought for the possibility of a small chin implant.  Bringing your chin forward with a small implant will help counterbalance the projection of your nose.  You have an attractive normal face however generally speaking if we drop a line from the base of your nose and the upper lip straight down we want to chin to come close to touching that line.  However in your case I would only use a very small implant but I do think this will improve the balance of your side view with your nose.
