I'm considering a rhinoplasty to straighten out a dorsal hump and have read about various potential complications such as open roof, inverted v, pollybeak deformities etc. I understand that the final results of rhinoplasty take 12+ months to see, but when would a patient typically expect to notice if these type of complications were an issue? Would they be apparent within the first week, month, 6 months? When might I expect to feel fairly confident that there were no complications? Thanks.
Answer: When are some of the complications of rhinoplasty apparent? When are some of the complications of rhinoplasty apparent? The question you ask is a good one, but the answer is not that simple and straightforward. The types of complications you mention such as open roof, inverted V, and poly beak deformity can be apparent at the very beginning if the nasal bones were not properly in fractured and if the dorsal septum was not adequately trimmed, Or the tip adequately supported. However, in some cases all of those things were done properly but an open roof can develop from the bones gradually drifting outward. if this occurs on one side it will not only make the roof look wide and open but the nose will look crooked. If this occurs on both sides it will create the open roof, inverted V appearance. it can occur slowly over the period of a few months. Similarly a polybeak may develop from the buildup of scar tissue in the area above the tip which typically takes 6 to 12 weeks to form. I would say that if your nose looks really good after three months you would be out of the woods for those problems.

Answer: Rhinoplasty surgery Hello! Thank you for your question. There are possible complications for every procedure / surgery / ... But I can tell you that complications like polly beak deformity / inverted V / ... depend on the techniques the surgeon use. That is why it is really important to go for the surgery with a doctor that has experience and that you trust. Anyway, if a complication appears, it can show during the first weeks post-op or during the first months at latest. Many patients are afraid of the complications which I can understand. You can ask the doctor you choose for his/her revisions and complications rate. That would help you decide.Best regards!

Answer: How long to see complications of rhinoplasty for dorsal hump reduction. Thank you for your question. Typically following rhinoplasty there is significant swelling and bruising and often a splint has been applied. Therefore the first time you will see your new nose is it about 2 weeks to 3 weeks after surgery. At this point the result of the rhinoplasty begin to be apparent and you should see significant improvement in your postoperative appearance. However long-term problems begin to be seen about 6 weeks and small lumps and bumps or irregularities sometimes not visible for 6 months.
