Do my scars look healed enough to start using bio oil? (photos)

I am 6 weeks post op and would like to start using bio oil to reduce the visibility of my scars.. Are my scars healed enough or shall I wait until the scabs have fallen off?

Best Scar Management is important to minimize or completely hide from view, the telltale signs of your surgery—namely, scars. Both you and your surgeon want you to have the most minimal scarring possible. There are many possible causes for scars that are enlarged or not healing well. Unsightly scars are most commonly due to genetics, underlying medical conditions, or improper scar/wound care. The last part is very important and patients can make a noticeable difference in their scars’ appearance by following best scar management practices.

Hello,I advise my patients to keep their incisions covered and not apply anything until they are completely healed. this could be between 2-4 weeks. I recommend that you ask your Plastic Surgeon to examine and clear you before applying anything to your incisions.All the best

You should wait at least until the scabs fall offThen, you can massage with the oil, and for even better results, wear silicone stickers 24/7. Thank you very much for your question.In general I advise patients to wait until all of the scabs have fallen off so we know the incision is actually fully healed.  However, I recommend you discuss this with your surgeon, as every doctor has their own postoperative protocols for when things can be started.  Best of luck!

Your scars look healed enough to start treatments.  You might be better though using Solution for Scars, from Science of Skin, which has shown scientifically to benefit scars.

Thanks for your question. Yes, they look far enough along at this point to start scar massage. It would be best to have your surgeon see them in person first. Choose any sort of gentle oil/lotion and gradually apply more firm pressure for a few minutes per day. Silicone scar sheets can also be useful. Best wishes.
