Can you have Lipo and BBL with a non active pilonidal abscess?

Question

I have a pilonidal abscess which i am on antibiotics for. I have been refferd for surgery which by the way i have had before for the same thing. I am due to undergo full lipo and bbl in2 months... is it risky if the abscess has cleared but have not had the pilonidal surgery?

Hi Nazasprob,I agree with the other doctors regarding your pilonidal cyst and undergoing any surgery with an active infection is contraindicated.  My BBLs usually have an incision near where a pilonidal cyst would be and would effect the final result.  I would recommend waiting 3-4 months after a surgery in that area to undergo your BBL to allow the tissues to normalize.  This decision is based on your physical exam and should be discussed with your plastic surgeon.Hope that helps.Best,Dr. B

Thanks for the question.  Without seeing your cyst and knowing more about the situation, its hard to give you a solid answer.  But i would say, in general it makes sense to take care of the cyst first.  You never know when it is going to flare up.  The last thing you want is a bad flare up after surgery, and you don't want the fat to get contaminated either by the drainage from the cyst.  Discuss this with your surgeon to see how they feel about it.Good Luck

Thank you for your question. I would recommend that you get the cyst treated and then have the BBL surgery.  With any cosmetic procedure you want to make sure your risk of infection is minimal. Best wishesDr Rast

You must take first things first.  As long as you have an abscess-infection no BBL is possible.   Get correct treatment for you abscess and then do the BBL if you wish.    My Best,   Dr Commons
