Dying from Breast Reduction - what are the risks?

Unless you have serious medical problems and health issues going on unrelated to your breasts the risk of dying is extremely unusual to the point of being rare, about the same probability of dying from a car accident. Breast Reduction is an extremely safe operation when performed by a board certified plastic surgeon.

It is excellent to see you taking the surgery so seriously.  The most important thing did to maximize your chance of a good outcome is smoking cessation.  Great job!There are risks with every surgery.  However, I could not find any reported case in the medical literature of a healthy 17 year old dying from breast reduction( I checked).  Most of the mortality data after breast reduction is on patients getting breast reduction as part of breast reconstruction for cancer.  It has been determined to be safe in this case also.  The risks, benefits, and alternatives will be explained to you in detail by your plastic surgeon during the informed consent part of the process.  Ask as many questions as you would like.  Be sure to feel comfortable with the process before moving forward.  Best of luck.
