I had a breast reduction 2 weeks ago and I am having the expected pain here and there and some swelling. My breast are very sensitive and I did not lose any nipple sensation. When I drink something cold I sometimes feel the cold sensation in my nipples. I didn't mention this to my doctor because it just sounds too weird, but it is happening. Is this normal?

Although drinking something cold and cold sensation in nipples does not necessarily follow logically, many women report hypersensitivity to the nipples a few weeks after breast surgery.  This typically settles down over time.  You should be comfortable enough with your surgeon to ask him or her any questions you have.

I'm not sure I could connect an association between a cold beverage and a response by the nipples after breast reduction but bizarre sensations are often reported by patients. These will get better as time passes.

Do not know of any association between drinking something cold and nipple sensation.  I would assume that over time this will go away.

I can't say that I've heard of or am aware of this as a normal consequence of breast reduction surgery.  Having sensation in your nipples at this early stage is a good sign, pointing toward a recovery of all or most of your sensation even though that can take many weeks or even months.  And that can include hypersensitivity to cold, heat, pressure, etc.You should touch base with your PS about this but I suspect that there won't be a clearer answer that what is available on this forum.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. AlanEnglerMember of RealSelf100
