Chin implant removal. Dr didn't tape the area, does that really cause fluid to fill in to pockets? Does fluid resolve with time?

I am 25 years old. Chin implant was silicone. Not taping the area after removal of the implant, causes fluid to fill in the pockets? If so does that fluid resolve over with time. Can there be permanent fluid collection or turn into scar tissue? Please help me what are the chances?

Every surgeon may have different preferences, but in my case, I do place tape after placing a chin implant and I do not place tape after removing one.  Not taping the area should not cause fluid to accumulate.  If you feel there is some fluid collecting, you should contact your surgeon, as this is not normal.  Depending on the type of fluid collecting and the amount, fluid can resolve by itself but sometimes it needs to be removed.  This can sometimes be done by aspiration with a needle and in rare instances, with surgery to remove it.

Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years.  When a silastic chin implant is removed using a small, curved incision under the chin...there is very minimal trauma, swelling or bruising.  Nevertheless, I still place steri strip reinforced tape over the chin area to further minimize the post removal swelling.  It only takes a few minutes and I believe that it's more beneficial than not placing any tape.  Any swelling will resolve in a few weeks.  A true collection of fluid (seroma) or blood (hematoma) should be removed with needle aspiration to prevent this fluid from becoming infected.  In my experience these are very rare events.Hope this helps.
