Most are placed via and intra-oral incision and secured with titanium screws. Implantech also can produce custom silastic implants via a CAD-Cam or CT. The implants are very successful in general. The angle of the jaw has to blend into the mid portion and chin properly however, in order to achieve a natural balanced look. Implants can be contoured at surgery and literally hand carved rather than relying upon standard sizes. As well, one does not really benefit from fancy xray determinations of size since xrays do not show the soft tissue contour but only the bone. You need an experienced surgeon.
