Autoimmune disorders and mommy makeovers?

Hi and Thankyou in advance! I have psoriatic arthritis and inject etanercept every week, am I still able to have a mommy makeover while on this medication? I will happily stop taking it for as long as is needed if necessary. I am wary that it may affect my wound healing. Noolie.

Your rheumatologist would have to provide clearance for you to have the MM and provide your medical records with respect to medications that would be continued during and after surgery for your psoriatic arthritis. Etanercept appears to increase the risk of postoperative infections, therefore, your rheumatologist may recommend that you discontinue early enough before surgery to permit its elimination from your body and not resumed until at least 2 weeks after surgery. Please address these concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and rheumatologist.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. All your health condition should be under control prior to surgery and you might also need a clearance from your doctor. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

You will first want to visit with your rheumatologist to discuss your interest in a Mommy Makeover, including potentially holding your medications.  If given clearance you can then visit with a board certified plastic surgeon for a consultation.  Your surgeon will let you know if any of your medications should be stopped prior to surgery.

Mostly it’s up to your rheumatologist to decide if you’re appropriate to have surgery and how your medications should be managed.

Different plastic surgeons may have different opinions so I suggest having in person consultations at which point you can discuss these concerns and your medical history with the surgeon who will do the procedure.
