Should I have a breast lift before a tummy tuck?

Question

Hello, I want to have a breast lift and tummy tuck, done separately. Which way around would give the best results? I was thinking that if I had the breast lift first, the tummy tuck would then pull the scar down and make it more visible? Thank you.

Excellent results can be achieved either way, specifically doing the breast lift or the tummy tuck first. I would suggest that you identify your #1 priority, and move forward with that procedure first. Once procedure #1 has healed, procedure #2 should not notably impact the results of procedure #1.
Ultimately, the area that bothers you most should be addressed first.

The scar for the breast uplift procedure should not be pulled down by the tummy tuck because the tissues are not undermined (lifted off the abdomen) as high as the breasts during tummy tuck surgery. Therefore, which problem area you address first is entirely up to you, and I would suggest starting with the area that you find most troublesome. Of course, these procedures can be combined into a single surgical episode, which will come at a lower overall cost to you. Your recovery and what is happening in the rest of your life is also an important consideration.

Hello and thank you for your question!  If you are a good candidate, both procedures can be performed at the same time!   It seems like you would be a very good candidate for a mommy makeover. You can get a tummy tuck and breast augmentation/lift at the same time and this is part of what people talk about when they use the term  "mommy makeover".

Of course, these procedures can be done separately though the cost is usually more. It is very common for women to want a mommy makeover, especially after having had children. Pregnancy definitely is hard on the abdominal and breast areas and this is a comment complaint among women visiting my office.

I completely understand the desire to save costs as well as only undergo only one procedure and have them done at the same time.

I would recommend that you see a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area that is a member of both ASPS & ASAPS and performs a lot of mommy makeovers. Good luck with your future surgery!

There is no right or wrong answer to this . You can  go for one which is bothering you more. One option is that you can go for both operations at the same time to give you one general anaesthetic and one recovery. Generally when patients get tummy tuck, their breast become more prominent and in fact some patients got compliments for getting breast augmentation when they has a tummy tuck,

every plastic surgeon has his own protocol which he recommends to his patients. You should wait until you are fully healed from one surgery in order to get another elective procedure. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

Hi, thanks for your question. Neither procedure will affect the results of the other, so it really doesn't matter what order you do the procedures. A breast lift has a shorter recovery period than the tummy tuck, so it really just depends on your schedule and which procedure you would prefer to have done first. That said, if you had the procedures done simultaneously you would have a shorter recovery time overall. I recommend that you speak to your plastic surgeon about this and about any other concerns that you might have.

The breast lift will have a shorter recovery time than the TT, so you may want to do it first. Order of the surgeries will not affect the outcome of either. Many of my patients have both procedures completed in one surgery so they only have one recovery.
