My CoolSculpt applicator dislodged, she says it's effective after 15min so no need to restart treatment. Is this true?

My Coolsculpt advantage applicator got disconnected after 30min and she didn't restart treatment, saying it's effective after 15min anyway. But I find this sketchy. What's the point of a second treatment EVER? Surely patients come back to re treat the same area because the second time around, more fat cells are frozen?? Ie. extended coolsculpt sessions provide extended fat freezing. And therefore by giving me an incomplete session, she's short changed me? Nb. It's the new Coolsculpt machine

The new CoolAdvantage CoolSculpting applicators freeze the fat in a 35 minute treatment session. The larger, CoolAdvantage Plus applicators are 45 minutes in treatment time. If your applicator was dislodged after 30 minutes then you should probably be OK. I am not aware of any evidence that say's it's effective after 15 minutes. It can take 3 months to see results from the treatment. If you don't see any difference after 3 months then I would have a discussion with your provider regarding your treatment experience and further options. Best wishes.

With the CoolsculptAdvantage, treatment time is 35 minutes. If you have concerns about your treatment, I recommend following up with your practitioner. Keep in mind, for best results with Coolsculpting, a combination approach is needed. I recommend adding radiofrequency treatments like Vanquish, Venus Legacy, Exilis Ultra for skin tightening and with Z wave/Cellutone for skin smoothing. However, a Vaser with ThermiRF procedure is the best combination for a toned result, but requires more downtime. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Not to worry, 30 minutes of a 35 minute CoolAdvantage cycle is sufficient.  You didn't miss out on anything.  Patients do in fact return after 6 weeks (or more) to retreat areas they want to continue to improve.  With the fat cells destroyed by the first treatment already gone, a new layer of fat cells are able to be addressed, which improves on the previous results. If you treated the same area immediately after the first treatment it wouldn't be able to reach another layer of cells.  Rest assured, your treatment was fine.  You may need a second treatment in 6-8 weeks because there is more fat to treat, not because your first treatment was ineffective.

The new CoolSculpting machines require 35 minutes. The fact that you got 30 minutes is within the margin of error and probably is not a situation where you got "shortchanged". Having said, that my office probably would have offered a discount on the second procedure but because of safety reasons certainly would not have repeated the procedure over the same area after the dislodging of the handpiece.. With regard to your question about second or even third sessions, it really depends on how much you are trying to lose in a given treatment area. The fat cells killed per session are about 20%. I believe that second sessions are extremely effective in many cases. We use combination therapies with radiofrequency and ultrasound used in conjunction with CoolSculpting. The CoolSculpting Advantage technology takes 35 minutes to treat. The bulk of the treatment takes place in the 30 minute period with the last five minutes akin to a deactivation period. If the applicator was attached for the full 30 minutes, you got everything you need to have a full and effective treatment. Regarding subsequent treatments, it is important to understand the science behind this treatment. CoolSculpting is as effective as it is because of the controlled nature of intense cooling that is designed to affect fat cells only without harming skin or muscle. It would be irresponsible of the provider to treat again immediately after already treating for 30 minutes. This could burn the skin and damage the tissue. People treat a second time to continue the process of fat cell removal. Each treatment will permanently remove 20-25% of the fat cells from the treated areas. Most patients find that the magic really happens after the second treatment. But, there needs to be a healthy interval of time between treatments, usually 4-6 weeks. Good luck with everything!
