Thank you for your question! Breast augmentation in transgender women has been a very common procedure at this Northern California office. I have been working with the transgender community since 2003 and have had lots of success augmenting transgender women of all shapes and sizes. There are a number of implant sizes that can assist you in achieving your goal. If you want to not be too big, or even small, discuss this with your physician. Then he or she can help pick out an implant that would work best for you. Most likely, a lower profile implant would be an appropriate choice. This means that for your given dimension, the implant would be a bit wider yet project out less. In this office, we use a 3 dimensional imaging system that lets you see approximately what you could look like with different implants. It has been very useful and patients have been thankful undergoing the imaging process. Another factor for you is the use of hormones and their result in enlarging your breasts. A common question is "how long should I wait after starting estradiol and/or progesterone until I get a breast augmentation?" The answer can vary, but some people may not even need an augmentation, especially if they want to have modest gains. Others, may have minimal response to hormone therapy and have to rely on the surgery. This waiting time to see the effects can be even up to a couple of years. I hope this helps!!!
