My lip is raised on one side after Juvederm. Is this swelling, or too much product? (Photo)

Question

I had juvederm 48 hours ago and the left hand side of my top lip looks a little raised in profile. Where it's raised on top of my lip it looks white and it gives the impression I have a slight moustache (its not a bruise). Is this likely swelling or too much product? Thanks.

It is common to get swelling after fillers into the lips.  It is not normal to have irregularities or severe swelling.  If you are unhappy you should speak to your physician and have the area injected with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that reverses the hyaluronic acid filler.  For the next injections, consider Restylane Silk with cannula injection, this technique will limit the pain, swelling or bruising after the filler placement.  It often takes up to two weeks for swelling to subside on its own.  Find an expert in filler injections for your future treatments.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Hi cookiedough4,It is very normal to still be swollen at this point.  Give the product 2 weeks until you decide if you love it or hate it.  One side may swell more than the other. I suggest following up with the injector in 2 weeks to do any touch ups, if necessary. Best of luck.

It could be either too much product or swelling. I would give this 10-14 days to settle completely. If the asymmetry is still present a small amount of hyaluronidase can be used to reduce the excess fullness on your left side. Hello Cookiedough4,Lip swelling after lip augmentation can be quite pronounced in the early time period (48-72h) and it is very common to get asymmetric swelling. Therefore I wouldn't assume that you would need correction unless you've given it about 7-10 days for the swelling to subside. Best of luck.Michael M. Kim, MD

Hello Cookiedough4,The lips tend to swell quite a bit.  At 48 hours it would be hard to tell if it is from too much product or just swelling.  If you liked it when you left the clinic it is likely from swelling.  If it was bothering you left it is likely from too much product. The swelling should go down over the course of the week so at least give it that long before you consider anything.  I would recommend you discuss your concerns with your injector to evaluate your concerns.I hope this helps and good luck.
