Hey! How many cc’s of fat are you allowed to remove in one session? I’m booked to have bbl with vaser to stomach but I want extra taken out of my arms too. Would that mean I would have less taken out of my stomach if I have my arms Done too?

Answer: Total volume that can be safely removed Total volume that can be removed safely in an outpatient surgical facility is 5L. For those patients who need more removed, your surgery is performed at a local hospital where we are allowed to remove up to 10 L. This also depends on your starting hemaglobin. In general, we don't routinely need to remove more than 5 L even if you do your arm and abdomen. Please consider a virtual consultation with a VASER specialist.

Answer: Maximum fat removal my understanding is only Florida has a law restricting how much that can be removed in a single session. The American Society of plastic surgeons as published general safety guidelines stating that last and 5000 mL of total aspirate which typically ends up being around 4000 mL of that should be the limit in a single session as an outpatient procedure. And ethical plastic surgeon with treat each area to completion and I ask that you come back for a second procedure if you have more than 5L of fat( actually total aspirate) to be removed. Typically patients over 200 pounds lean towards requiring two sessions of liposuction. Some will do 5000 mL spread over your body and call it a day. Personally that's not how I do these procedures. We sometimes do the second procedure 48 hours later. I perform liposuction with my patients a week using local anesthesia with mild sedation in the office. Based on that it's fairly simple to bring the patient back in a couple of days to do the remaining area. For young healthy people this seems reasonable. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
