Because the patient is face down on their tummy and because the implant is placed under the very large and strong gluteus maximus muscle, this procedure is by far more effectively and safely performed with the patient completely relaxed and asleep under general anesthesia. I currently perform 6 - 8 buttock implants per week and over 1500 total in my career. I have never had a patient get seriously ill or negativley effected by the general anesthesia for buttock implants. Glad to help.

Buttock implants are usually done under general anesthesia. I have made excellent experience with asking my team of anesthesists to add an epidural which can keep you pain free in the first 24 hours when pain can sometimes be intense. That is surgeon preference so not everybody will do that.
