41 y/o female had my last baby via c-section about 1.5 years ago. I’m in really good shape but can’t seem to tighten my stomach. I also got the dreaded c-section shelf with my second baby. I’m naturally really thin (5’6 110-115lbs and size 0/2) but I hate the way my stomach looks. A tummy tuck seems so invasive and scary. Are there other options?
Answer: Mini tummy tuck A mini tummy tuck can be done, which would correct the shelving scar and excise it. You can also undergo umbilicoplasty, which will take some of the stretched skin around the umbilicus and make it better but not as much as would be taken during a full tummy tuck. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Skin tightening Hello, This is a great inquiry, and a common one too! Tummy tucks can seem invasive and scary, I understand your concerns! I do see what bothers you about the appearance of your abdomen. From the photos, and not examining you in person, it seems that your best option would be a tummy tuck for the best possible results of tightening and getting rid of loose skin. Non-invasive options can include radiofrequency microneedling to tighten the skin of the abdomen, although this is off label use and can be costly. The best results in your case seem to be surgical. As always, an in-office consultation is required to really examine your abdomen and your own unique anatomy, as well as discuss the procedure and any questions you may have. Best,Dr. Tanovic

Answer: Tummy Tuck Thank you for your questions and photo. A tummy tuck will address excess skin & repair of the abdominal muscle. The abdominal wall can be weakened after pregnancy and (or) significant weight gain & loss. By repairing the muscle, not only does the appearance of your abdominal area improve, but your core strength as well. The repair of the muscle will cinch your waist like an inner corset, which will accentuate your curves. Liposuction will remove excess fat from unwanted areas with some skin retraction. Your expectations and health will dictate the best procedure(s) for you. I suggest a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to go over the options that best address your goals. Best of luck! Dhaval Patel MD Double Board Certified Plastic Surgeon South Barrington Oakbrook Orland Park

Answer: Tummy tuck results require surgery Tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty surgery, addresses loose skin and separated muscles (rectus diastasis). Both of these are visible in your photo. Unfortunately there's no way to get the results of a tummy tuck without surgery. The recovery can be tough for the first couple of weeks. But seeing a surgeon who offers drainless abdominoplasty surgery with nerve blocks can really make the recovery easier. I offer drainless tummy tucks for patients with a BMI below 30, and I do nerve blocks on all of my patients. Surgery is outpatient- so you go home the same day.

Answer: A tummy tuck is your best option, nothing else will address all your concerns Although you are very thin and in shape, you have excess skin and a scar from your children. The only way to effectively address the excess skin and fix the scar/shelf at the same time is a tummy tuck. Although the scar would be longer than the c-section scar, a tummy tuck isn't that invasive of a procedure, most patients at our practice are back to work within the week and just have to be careful with how much and how heavy of lifting they do for a while. You would be a GREAT candidate for a tummy tuck and would have a fabulous result since you have kept in shape and just have some minor problems that could be fixed (excess skin and c-section scar)
