Could this be hematoma or normal healing 3 days post submentoplasty and liposuction? (Photos)

Question

I am 3 days post op from a submentoplasty and neck sculpting liposuction. I have a drain on the right side of my neck, but the left side seems to have significant more swelling. There is more bruising on this side as well. There is a mass when I touch the spot. The on-call surgical fellow says it’s impossible to have a hematoma with a drain, but I have my suspicions and will be following up with my surgeon in the morning. Any additional advice would be most appreciated.

It's too soon to tell what your final results will be. You will have swelling, which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. To speed up healing, you can try adding hyperbaric oxygen, lymphatic massage, venus legacy or exilis radiofrequency treatments. To improve final results, we will often do a kybella and ultherapy about 4-6 weeks after neck liposuction to get more of an outcome. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question and pictures.  This does not look like a hematoma just the after results of liposuction, its causes irregularities to the skin.  I always advise patients to start massaging the area straight after surgery so it doesn't harden and form scar tissue.  Please do follow the advise of your surgeon and have regular follow up appointments.  All  The Best
