What to do to fix retraction so I can rest?

I had a transconjuntival lower eyelid bleph with skin pinch on Feb 21. I now have lower lid retraction of 2mm in both eyes and a half mm opening when I close my eyes. When I go to sleep it seems that my bottom lids shrink down and get very dry and I can't rest. I haven't been able to sleep since March 28. Can someone please help me? I do eye exercises everyday.

I suggest having your physician show you how to tape your lower eyelid up when you go to sleep with some micropore/antiallergenic tape. It will keep your lid from being retracted while you are asleep. It will also actually help treat the retraction. Please communicate with your physician with all of your concerns. Thank you for your question.  Lower eyelid retraction can occur after a lower eyelid blepharoplasty, even in the best and most experienced hands.  Although more common with the external (subciliary) approach, it can also (rarely) occur with an internal (transconjunctival) approach.  The good news is that the problem can improve over time and without need for surgery.  I would wait about six months before considering surgery.  I would continue with warm compresses and massage to the lower eyelids during this time.  If the retraction and symptoms persist, the good news is that it can be corrected.  Many oculoplastic surgeons specialize and are trained in this procedure.  Best wishes.

Thank you for your question. Photos would be helpful. If you have not addressed this with your surgeon you should do so immediately. You should see a fellowship trained Oculoplastic surgeon to evaluate your lids and your cornea. If you are not using artificial tears you should start at least four times a day, as well as artificial tear ointment at bedtime. An Oculoplastic surgeon can evaluate you and come up with treatment plan. An Ophthalmologist can also evaluate your cornea.
