Treatments for rosacea and melasma

Question

I have rosacea and I do Vbeam and IPL on a regular basis to improve redness and flushing. I take Minocycline in between to help with bumps. I have now developed melasma around the eyes. I just got Vbeam 3 days ago and the patches of measma are darker. What can I do? I would like to reduce them. I started using Lytera from Skin medica. Thank you!

Vbeam laser is an excellent modality for patients who have rosacea, blushing of the skin, facial and body telangiectasia, spider veins, redness, post surgical redness, and skin flushing. It is a safe procedure that can be used at varying depths to help treat micro blood vessels in the skin. We also use it in our office for facial skin inflammation, keloids, and hypertrophic scarring. It is an important part of scar therapy. Vbeam can be combined with chemical peels and other lasers, but experience with the treatment is essential. The Vbeam laser does not affect deeper tissue. Schedule a consultation with an expert in Vbeam and you will find it to be an excellent modality for many skin types.

Hello and thank you for your question. You may need to address the melasma using a different device than the Vbeam. While this laser is excellent for treating vascular concerns like the symptoms of rosacea, it isn’t likely to address the discoloration of melasma as effectively. In my office, I work with more than 50 different laser devices that allow me to tailor each treatment to the precise needs and goals of my patients. I recommend scheduling an in-person assessment with a board-certified dermatologist who has expertise in a broad range of laser treatments. With a customized treatment plan, you should be able to see very good results for all your skin concerns.

Rosacea treatments can include a mix of topical treatments (including antibiotics and anti-inflammatory gels) and oral medications (including antibiotics), only if absolutely necessary.
