My tear trough fillers are swelling 8 months later. Could it be the cold weather? Or what? It looks awful! Please advise!

I got a filler done in my tear troughs in March within a few days it was perfect and everything I wanted! Yesterday, 8 months later, I randomly woke up to a bruised tender feeling under my eyes. This morning I woke up and both my eyes are very swollen underneath. In the tear trough area and also up near the inner corners of my eyes. It's obvious it's the filler expanding or something? I made an apt with the specialist who did it for today. But I'd like some opinions in the mean time if possible.

Thank you for your question.  Pictures would help us if you had a chance.Rarely, people can have delayed swelling where fillers were injected.  Some fillers are more prone to it than others.  They are solutions to this.Some reaction can be related to dental infections or upper respiratory tract infections.Some patients may develop a chronic inflammatory reaction to a foreign material, especially when using the semi-permanent fillers (hence I prefer the hyaluronic acid fillers).You may also have a small anatomic space in the lower lids called festoons, which can fill up with water from time to time, with or without fillers.You could also have an allergic reaction unrelated to your injections 8 months ago.Your injector will likely have a better idea once he/she can assess you.Hope this helps,Kind regards,Dr. Marc DuPere, aesthetic plastic surgeon.

This isn't typical. I recommend following up with your injector. If necessary, this can be reversed with hyaluronidase. It may take a series of treatments. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question. It is impossible to know if this is related to the filler without a proper in-person examination. Although not very common, swelling can occur weeks to months after dermal fillers injections. If this is the case, hyaluronidase can be used to dissolve the filler.
