I got a breast augmentation 17 days ago - 365cc cohesive gel, Transaxillary incision, under the muscle. I know it is early to judge & it is normal for your nipples/areolas to be puffy and swollen after the procedure, however, when will they not be puffy anymore? They seem to be bigger as well. Will they go down in size or are they permanently larger since the implant stretched my skin? Photo attached. As an aside, how long until the skin does not look shiny anymore due to it stretching?
Answer: Swelling Hello, its common to have swelling that is still resolving during this time. Its also common to see changes in the nipple areolar complex. These changes usually soften with time...but you can have remaining changes to the area just due to the implant and pressure that it adds.

Answer: Breast Augmentation - Post Op Swelling? Thank you for your question. You are still early in the post-operative period. It typically takes 3 - 6 months for the swelling to subside and and implants to settle into proper position. Please discuss your concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon. Also, make sure you follow all of your plastic surgeons post-operative instructions regarding level of physical activity and use of a support bra. Hope this helps and good luck with your recovery.

Answer: Post Op Swelling/Appearance Hello,At 3 weeks it is common for skin to be tight, implants high and some residual swelling/puffiness present. You can probably expect most of this to be resolved around 2-3 months post op but it may take up to 6 months for the breasts to fully soften and drop. All the best

Answer: Swollen Nipples after Breast Augmentation HEALING AFTER BREAST SURGERY, AUGMENTATION, LIFTS1. pain is variable2. it takes 2-3 months for implants to settle and muscles to relax3. celebrex, motrin, and muscle relaxers can help4. massage and stretching may help5. everyone heals differently6. 4-7 days off from work is commonHEALING OF SENSORY NERVES: Tingling, burning or shooting pains, which will disappear with time and should not alarm you, indicate regeneration of the sensory nerves. If these sensations cause pain, repeated, local self-massage helps.ASYMMETRY: The two breasts commonly heal quite differently. One breast may swell more, feel more uncomfortable, or have a different initial shape. After complete healing, they will be more similar and natural. You must have patience, but if this causes concern, ask questions of the doctor or the nursing staff.SHAPE AND CONTOUR: The final shape of your breasts will start to look its best approximately three (3) months after surgery. It takes time for the skin and muscle to stretch and relax around the new implant. The breast will often look higher, firmer, and “less natural” in the first three (3) months. It can take up to a year to see your final result.FOLLOW-UP EXAMS: These are generally done in 1 week, 2 to 3 weeks, 3 to 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months to 1 year, and 1-2 year intervals. In our office we include all of your follow up appointments in the initial surgical fee.The best thing to do if you are worried about the healing process is to visit your surgeon for a follow-up appointment and have the area examined and make sure that everything is progressing as it should. Good luck.

Answer: Swollen nipples/ areolae after breast augmentation Thank you for the question and photos. What you are experiencing is completely normal. Your areola size will continue to be larger than your before because of the stretch but may go down a little. The puffiness and shiny skin is obviously from the swelling and stretching which can last up to 3 months. My patients usually see a great improvement at 6 weeks. Be patient you look great. All the best!Happy New Year!Dr. Khuthaila
