Swollen nipples/areolas after breast augmentation?

Hello, its common to have swelling that is still resolving during this time. Its also common to see changes in the nipple areolar complex. These changes usually soften with time...but you can have remaining changes to the area just due to the implant and pressure that it adds. 

Thank you for your question. You are still early in the post-operative period. It typically takes 3 - 6 months for the swelling to subside and and implants to settle into proper position. Please discuss your concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon. Also, make sure you follow all of your plastic surgeons post-operative instructions regarding level of physical activity and use of a support bra. Hope this helps and good luck with your recovery.

Hello,At 3 weeks it is common for skin to be tight, implants high and some residual swelling/puffiness present. You can probably expect most of this to be resolved around 2-3 months post op but it may take up to 6 months for the breasts to fully soften and drop.All the best

Thank you for the question and photos. What you are experiencing is completely normal. Your areola size will continue to be larger than your before because of the stretch but may go down a little. The puffiness and shiny skin is obviously from the swelling and stretching which can last up to 3 months. It is normal for your nipples to be swollen and appear stretched out after breast augmentation. They usually settle down to their normal size after a few months when the swelling goes down and the muscle relaxes 

Every patient is a little different, but most of my patients take between 6 weeks and 3 months for their implants to look and feel natural. The skin envelope and the muscle adapt to the implant and the tight appearance of the skin normalizes. The increased volume from the implant will have a permanent affect on the diameter of the areolae. But it will likely seem a bit less dramatic as the skin accommodates to the implant over the next several months. 

Due to the volume of the implants added to your breasts, not only will your breasts be larger but the nipple areolar complexes will as well. The breasts are expectedly swollen at 17 days postop and this includes the nipple areolar complexes as well. As the swelling subsides over the next several weeks, the puffiness of the areolas will improve as well.

It is normal to have swelling after breast augmentation and it can take a number of weeks for this to settle. Usually the majority will have settled by 6 weeks.

It is normal to have some swelling in the breast and/or nipple area after breast augmentation. If the swelling increases then you need to contact your surgeon.
